Ferro.jpg (37841 bytes)Welcome to the web page of the Science Club at Richard Bland College.   Science Club activities are open to all Richard Bland College students and their families.

We enjoyed a chilly three day trip in March to Port Isobel and Tangier Island in the Chesapeake Bay. The hardy students and faculty participated in many activities and had the opportunity to explore the life of a "waterman" on the bay.

In March, we enjoyed a lecture on riparian buffers by Gary Speiran from the USGS.

On Feb. 16 we were treated to an informative lecture on global warming presented by Rodney Sobin with Virginia's DEQ.  Link to powerpoint.

February 3rd we took a trip to Washington DC to see the Greenhouse exhibit at the National Building Museum.  We also visited the new Indian Museum.

On Friday, January 19, we saw "An Inconvenient Truth".  This movie was the kick-off to a semester we hope will include many activities relating to global warming.  We have also enjoyed "Who Killed the Electric Car?" and "What is Happening to the Polar Bear?"

Some of the other activities we plan for the spring include a hike in the Shenandoah National Forest (April 21), and a lecture (April 20) for Earth Day on "Green Architecture".
