Elizabeth Rescher attended the Modern Language Association meeting in New Orleans in December.  Elizabeth is a member of the Delegate Assembly, the policy-making committee for the MLA.

Upcoming Opportunities:

The Faculty/staff book discussion group will meet Monday, February 11 at 11:15 in the Faculty Dining Room (student center) to discuss Ellen Glasgow’s Barren Ground.  Faculty/staff attending should bring a brown bag lunch and beverage.  Dessert is being provided by Mama’s Kitchen.  Tim Evans will be the discussion leader.  Please let Tim know by Tuesday, February 5 if you plan to attend so that he can be sure to have a sufficient quantity of dessert.

Thanks to the efforts of Mary Monroe, we have been invited to visit Ellen Glasgow’s home, the Glasgow House, at 1 W. Main Street in Richmond.  The current residents, John and Tricia Pearsall, have generously offered to let us into their home on Wednesday, February 20, 11:45-12:30.  Mary has also graciously invited us to her home afterwards for tea and conversation.  I realize that teaching schedules will prevent many faculty members from taking advantage of this opportunity, but the rest of us will tell you all about it.  I have reserved the van for that day.  If more of us than will fit into the van are going, perhaps we can arrange some carpools.  Please let Tim know by Friday, February 15, if you plan to go so that we can let these nice people know how many invaders to anticipate.

Faculty Development is now online.  Thanks to Kay Snavely, announcements concerning upcoming conferences, grant opportunities, and other general information can be found on Blackboard.  Double-click on Faculty Development, and you will find the latest announcements.  Eventually I hope to select specific groups for specific announcements, but for now, everyone will get the same ones.  If you have problems getting on Blackboard, contact Kay.
