TRANSFER AGREEMENT

LYNCHBURG COLLEGE

and

RICHARD BLAND COLLEGE

of

The College of William and Mary in Virginia

Lynchburg College welcomes and values transfer students from Richard Bland College who have completed an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Degree, and are appropriately prepared to pursue a Baccalaureate Degree.

Therefore, upon application, Lynchburg College will guarantee acceptance of any Richard Bland College graduate with an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Degree who has earned a minimum grade point average of 2.50, exclusive of physical education courses, and has been recommended by Richard Bland College. (Students who are not native speakers of English should score at least 520 on the TOEFL examination.) This guarantee assumes there are no other factors in a student's academic or personal record that might prevent acceptance.  For guaranteed acceptance, applications must be received by May 1 (for Fall term) and January 1 (for Spring term).  A student with a grade point average below 2.50 will be considered for admission also, but without the guaranteed acceptance.

Lynchburg College will waive the application fee for Richard Bland College students who apply for admission to Lynchburg College.

Lynchburg College will offer accepted applicants from Richard Bland College priority consideration for available financial aid if they apply for aid by the recommended deadline of March 1.

Lynchburg College agrees that Richard Bland College graduates who are accepted under this agreement will receive transfer credit for all courses completed at Richard Bland College that correspond to or can be considered an equivalent of courses offered at Lynchburg College, and for which a grade of "C" or above was earned.  Credits earned with the grade of "C" or above at accredited institutions other than Richard Bland College that satisfy Richard Bland College degree requirements will be treated on an equal basis as credits earned at Richard Bland College.

These transfer students will be designated as junior-level students, but will be required to complete any unfilled Lynchburg College General Education Requirements.  Richard Bland College graduates transferring to Lynchburg College can generally expect to graduate in two years, depending upon their choice of major and assuming that they take normal course-loads and make satisfactory progress at Lynchburg College.  When calculating eligibility for General Honors at graduation, academic grades earned at Richard Bland College and at Lynchburg College will be considered in accordance with Lynchburg College's graduation policies.

Students who begin as first-year students at Richard Bland College and graduate from Lynchburg College within six consecutive calendar years will come under the degree requirements in the Lynchburg College Catalogue effective upon their initial enrollment at Richard Bland College.  Students who do not meet the above criteria must meet the Lynchburg College graduation requirements under the catalogue of their first-year of enrollment at Lynchburg College.

Lynchburg College and Richard Bland College agree that the faculties and staffs of the two institutions will work together to maintain a course-by-course evaluation of all courses listed in the Richard Bland College Catalogue.  Richard Bland College faculty and advising staff will encourage prospective Lynchburg College transfer students to meet the spirit and content of the Lynchburg College General Education Requirements to the greatest extent possible, including enrollment in foreign language, religion/philosophy, and literature courses at Richard Bland College.  Likewise, the Academic Advising Center and the appropriate program coordinators at Lynchburg College will offer counsel to Richard Bland College students who plan to transfer to Lynchburg College concerning course requirements and programs of study.

Richard Bland College agrees to support the transfer agreement with Lynchburg College by indicating the relationship in appropriate, literature and through its web site.

This Statement of Agreement will remain in effect until terminated by either party upon written notice to the other party of an intention to terminate.  Such notice shall be effective only if given 180 days prior to the intended date of termination.  Upon termination, the agreement will remain in effect for two additional years to accommodate students currently pursuing the transfer program at Richard Bland College.
