3.2.14 The institution’s policies are clear concerning ownership of materials, compensation, copyright issues, and the use of revenue derived from the creation and production of all intellectual property. These policies apply to students, faculty and staff. (Intellectual Property Rights)
JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE
NARRATIVE
The Richard Bland College Policy on Intellectual Property is published in the Richard Bland College Faculty Handbook, Section V - D, and begins with the following introduction: "The purpose of this policy is to define the ownership rights to copyrightable works of authorship and inventions which may be patented that are created by employees and students of Richard Bland College."
The policy covers:
ownership of property for employees (section 4b),
ownership of property for students (section 4c),
copyright issues (section 4f and 10),
notification responsibilities (section 5),
distribution of royalties and use of revenues (section 7),
grievance procedures (section 8),
reporting requirements to the Commonwealth (section 12) and
software use (section 13).Students and staff are informed of the policy through statements in their respective handbooks.
