Writing Assignment 2

The assignment:  Write a paragraph in which you describe a place.

Choose your topic carefully.  Don’t describe a place purely for the sake of describing this place.  Think of your audience’s needs.  After reading your paragraph, your reader should feel as if he or she has gained useful knowledge from reading your writing.

In your first drafts, focus on getting the meaning “right."  Be sure that the paragraph says exactly what you want it to say.  The drafts that you give to your audience for feedback should adhere to the conventions of Standard American English.

The paragraph should include a topic sentence, at least three supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence and will be evaluated on organization, development, grammar, punctuation, spelling, usage, mechanics, and presentation.

The final draft of the paragraph should be in Courier New, 12-point font and should be in the format shown in The Little, Brown Handbook (LBH), pp. 736-738.  In a folder with a pocket, turn in all prewriting (on bottom), rough drafts, and final draft (on top).

Be proud of your work.  Proofread carefully and present your work to your audience in a professional manner.
