Writing Assignment 1
The assignment: Write a paragraph in which you help me get to know you a little better.
Choose one characteristic that you possess and state that characteristic in a topic sentence. Then write at least three or four sentences that develop the topic sentence. If you choose to discuss more than one characteristic in your paragraph, you should use subtopic sentences. To make the paragraph feel “finished,” write a concluding sentence in which you restate or rephrase the topic sentence.
In your first drafts, focus on getting the meaning "right." Be sure that the paragraph says exactly what you want it to say. The drafts that you give to your audience for feedback should adhere to the conventions of Standard American English.
The paragraph will be evaluated on organization, development, grammar, punctuation, spelling, usage, mechanics, and presentation.
The final draft of the paragraph should be in Courier New, 12-point font and should be in the format shown in The Little, Brown Handbook (LBH), pp. 736-738. In a folder with a pocket, turn in all prewriting (on bottom), rough drafts, and final draft (on top).
Be proud of your work. Proofread carefully and present your work to your audience in a professional manner.
