Graduation Information

Commencement exercises occur only once per year in May. The ceremony is comprised of the previous fall and current spring graduates and upcoming summer candidates.



Graduation applications are due by:


November 1: fall candidates


February 1: spring candidates


July 1: summer candidates

Important Notice to Graduates

Congratulations on your achievement! All candidates for graduation are encouraged to attend Commencement on May 9, 2014. Conflicts should be cleared through the Office of the Registrar no later than Friday, May 2, 2014, by calling (084) 862-6238. We believe you will be interested in the summary of events and other information listed below.

Student Commons

Pickup Academic Dress, Cap, and Gown and Graduation Tickets. Each student will be allowed 7 tickets.

There is a $20 fee for cap & gown. Please make arrangements with the Business Office in Maze Hall to pay. Graduates who are unable to pick up on April 22 or 23 should call (804) 862-6213 to make arrangements for pickup of the cap/gown/tickets. Graduates may keep caps and gowns.

Front Desk of Center for Student Affairs

Phi Theta Kappa Members may pick up their Phi Theta Kappa stoles and tassels. Immediately following commencement on May 9, return the PTK stole to the PTK table in the Cafeteria. Students not returning stoles on May 9 must return them to the front desk in the Center for Student Affairs no later than Monday, May 12, 2014. Students who fail to return the PTK stole will have holds placed on their record that will prevent them from picking up their degree, having transcripts processed, registering, etc. You only have to return the PTK stoles; the tassels are yours to keep!


FYI – Caps and gowns are black.

3:45pm Line-up for class picture in Statesman Hall – the bleachers in the gym. * Students not present in the gym by 4:00 p.m. may not be included in the class picture. (NO EXCEPTIONS)


4:15pm Picture will be taken (Cost – $18.00 per picture, more information to come)


4:45pm Lineup for Commencement begins in the girl’s locker rooms. Signs will be posted so that you know in which locker room you will line up. Students not present for line up at 5pm may not be permitted to participate (NO EXCEPTIONS). Non-participating graduates may pick up diplomas at the Office of the Registrar in Maze Hall beginning at 9am on Monday, May 12, 2014.


5pm The gym doors will open for guests promptly at 5pm. Guests will not be allowed to enter before this time.


6pm Commencement begins




Failure to Graduate – Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by telephone no later than Thursday – May 8, 2014. By May, students must have at least a 2.00 GPA and completed at least 63 credits in order to qualify as a successful May graduate. Summer candidates must complete all their requirements by August 2014 to qualify as s summer graduate.
