Commencement exercises occur only once per year in May. The ceremony is comprised of the previous fall and current spring graduates and upcoming summer candidates.
Graduation applications are due by:
November 1: fall candidates
February 1: spring candidates
July 1: summer candidates

Congratulations on your achievement! All candidates for graduation are encouraged to attend Commencement on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Commencement begins at 3:00p.m. Doors will open for guests at 2:00p.m.

Informational Meeting for the 2017 Graduating Class
Thursday, April 6, 2017 (12:30pm – 1:20pm.) SSHE – Auditorium, 1st floor. Please note that eating or drinking in the auditorium is prohibited. If you have any questions/conflicts, please contact Mrs. Obermuller at 804-862-6238 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Academic Dress/Cap/Gown/Hood Pickup
There is a $58.50 fee for the cap, gown, and hood. Please make arrangements with the Bookstore located in the Student Commons to pay for and pick up your regalia starting on Monday, April 17, 2017 between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm (M-F). If you have any questions regarding cap & gown, please contact the Bookstore at 804-863-4490. Graduates may keep caps and gowns.
Each participating graduate will receive 4 tickets for commencement. Participating graduates may start picking up their tickets from the Bookstore starting on Monday, April 17, 2017. If you have any questions regarding graduation tickets, please call the Bookstore at 804-863-4490.
Phi Theta Kappa Members
Students may pick up their Phi Theta Kappa stoles and tassels from Aimee Joyaux at the PTK meeting on April 21 at 2:00pm in SSHE 116. Students must return stoles no later than Monday, May 15, 2017 to the Library circulation desk. Students not returning the stoles by Monday, May 15 will have a hold placed on their record which will prohibit processing of transcripts and degrees. You only have to return the PTK stoles; the tassels are yours to keep! If you have any questions regarding PTK, please contact Aimee Joyaux at email@example.com
Statesman Scholars active in the Honors program may pick up their tassels from the Library circulation desk May 1 –5 between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
To qualify for May graduation, students need a 2.00 GPA and have earned 60-63 credits before graduation. Summer candidates must complete all requirements by August, 2017 to qualify as a summer graduate and may not have more than 12 credits to complete in the summer.
Commencement Day – Saturday, May 13, 2017
Statesman Hall, bleachers in the gym. Lineup for class pictures begins promptly at 1:00p.m. Students must be in the gym by 1:00p.m. to be included in the class picture. The class picture will be taken at 1:15p.m. Cost and ordering information will be forthcoming.
Lineup for Commencement begins promptly at 1:45p.m. in the two Girl’s locker rooms in Statesman Hall. Signs will be posted so that you know in which locker room you will line up. Students arriving after 2:00pm may not be allowed to participate.
Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 graduates may pick up diplomas at the Registrar’s Office in Maze Hall beginning at 9:00am on Monday, May 22, 2017. August or summer graduates will have their diplomas mailed to them after all RBC summer classes are over.
Please clear any graduation conflicts through the Registrar’s Office no later than Friday, May 5, 2017 by calling 804-862-6238.
