Code Adam Alert: "A/D"

"Abduction/Attempted Abduction"

If an abduction or attempted abduction is seen by or reported to a staff member of Richard Bland College, by a student or anyone in the building, this staff member is to contact the business office at once. The following procedures should be taken:

   • Call the Business Office at 862-6213
   • Inform the Business Office of the location where the abduction/attempted
     abduction occurred.
   • Ask the person who witnessed the abduction/attempted abduction to remain
     at the location.
   • If the person will not remain, get the name, address & phone number of the witness.

Once the Business Office has received the report, the following procedures are to be followed:

   • Inform Security, Maintenance and Housekeeping staff by radio that there is
     a "Code Adam" "A/D" in effect and advise as to location of building.
   • Call the Virginia State Police, at once, notifying them of the situation and provide
     any further information they may require.
   • Contact the Dean of Administration and Finance
   • During the period of a major campus emergency, the Dean of Administration
     and Finance, as required, shall immediately place into effect the appropriate
     procedures necessary to meet the emergency, safeguard persons and property,
     and maintain educational facilities. The Dean of Administration and Finance shall
     consult with the President regarding the emergency and the possible need for a
     "campus state of emergency".

The following procedures are to be followed once Security,Maintenance and Housekeeping staffs have been alerted that there is a:

"Code Adam" "A/D" in effect:
   • Report to the building to which the Adam Alert was reported.
   • Lock and man all exits until notified otherwise.
   • Wait for further instructions from the Virginia State Police.
   • The Maintenance Supervisor will man the parking area if the ALERT is on the
     west side of campus.
   • The Custodial Supervisor will man the parking area if the ALERT is on the east
     side of campus Radio Transmission "CODE ADAM" "A/D".

"Missing Child"

If a child in the company of an adult who is a student or visitor of Richard Bland College should become missing, this adult should immediately contact a staff member of the college, notifying them that a child is missing. The staff member alerted must observe the following procedures.

   • Call the Business office at 862-6213.
   • Inform the Business Office as to which building the child is missing from.
   • The Business Office is to observe the following procedures once a notice of the
     missing child is reported"
