Dr. Virginia Rose Cherry, Library Director at Richard Bland College, has been elected State President of the Virginia Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for 2009-2011.
Delta Kappa Gamma is a professional honor society for key women educators with 86 chapters and 4,000 members in Virginia. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International numbers more than 107,000 members in 16 countries and defines its mission as promoting the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
Established in 1929, Delta Kappa Gamma has attained major objectives in improving opportunities for qualified women employed at every level of education as well as in advancing the status of women educators. The organization provides numerous benefits to both members and non-members and has established a World Fellowship fund to provide opportunities for women educators to study in colleges and universities not located in their countries.
Many state organizations and chapters also award scholarships and study grants at their respective levels. Dr. Cherry’s local chapter provides a yearly $500 scholarship to Richard Bland College for International Travel for students.
