The month of April and National Library Week completed our year of "Reeling you in @ your library™."

Presentation of Oversize Library Cards

On April 3rd, the Library Staff presented oversize library cards to Dr. McNeer, The Friends of the Richard Bland College Library and to the Student Government Association.

40 Years, 40 Books

On April 10th, the library celebrated 40 years, 40 books.  Staff and students created books to celebrate the 40 years of Richard Bland College.

Quilt Dedication

On April 10th we also dedicated the quilt made by library staff to commemorate the 40 years of Richard Bland College history.  Library secretary Karen O'Daire did the quilting.

The quilt includes pictures of the buildings on the RBC campus, a picture of Richard Bland, a picture of the library staff, and more.  The close-up shows the block with the quilt theme of  "Reeling you in with 40 years of history @ your library.™"

Pecan Cookbook Presentation

On April 10th, Dr. Virginia Cherry presented the Pecan Cookbook that she has compiled to Dr. James McNeer, President of Richard Bland College.  Putting the cookbook together required many hours of student help.  Student assistant Genesis Johnson works with Dr. Cherry getting the pages ready for binding.

Guest Author Bob Gooch

On April 17th, guest author Bob Gooch entertained faculty and students with information on how he became a published author.  Mr. Gooch is the author of 17 books and over 2000 magazine articles on hunting and fishing in Virginia.  This program was sponsored by The Friends of the Richard Bland College Library.

Mnemosyne Authors and Artists

The final event for the month, which took place on April 24th,  was a celebration to honor the writers and artists published in the 2002 issue of the Mnemosyne, the creative magazine of Richard Bland College.  Professor Esther Floyd, faculty advisor for the magazine, helped to organize this event.
