Archives, which was founded in 1954, has been part of the Smithsonian
Institution since 1970 and is the largest source in the world of
primary source documentation about American visual arts from the
18th century to the 1950s and beyond. It includes catalogues and
papers of artists, dealers, critics, art historians, curators, administrators,
museums and related organizations. |

National Gallery has one of the finest collections in the world
