Banned Books Week 2006 is September 23–30

A title is considered a challenged book when a school or library receives a written complaint about said title along with a request that it be removed from the collection because of its questionnable content or appropriateness.

Popular authors whose books have been challenged include: Maya Angelou, Judy Blume, Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, and John Steinbeck.
