Gigi Amateau discussed her book, Claiming Georgia Tate.

"Georgia Tate Jamison never knew her mother, and what she knows of her daddy isn't good. Her grandparents have raised her since she was a baby. But when Nana passes away suddently, Georgia Tate's beloved granddaddy decides that a daughter belongs with her father and sends her to live with hers. The probelm is that some men, like Granddaddy Tate, were meant to be fathers--and some men, like Rayford Jamison, were never meant to be." From Book Jacket, published by Candlewick Press.

Gigi Amateau presented copies of her book to all in attendance.

The audience was intrigued with her writing techniques, story plots, and characters. She hopes that all of her books will include faith, hope and love as well as a characteristic of resiliency.

Her mentor in writing is Judy Blume, author of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, Gigi's favorite book from childhood.

VIRGINIA TECH

We are family...Come Together @ your library®

National Library Week's theme this year is "Come Together @ your library®." This week libraries across the country celebrate the importance of libraries in our lives. We come together to experience the pleasure of reading as well as expanding our knowledge. Libraries are valuable resources for every individual regardless of age. race, or religion. We all learn from visiting our libraries.

However, it is with sadness during National Library Week, that we come together at our libraries to express our sadness in remembering the Virginia Tech community. We share in their sorrow...we are one family.

RBC Students with VT flag

Kristen Thore, Megan Merryman, Demond Hawkins and Librarian Joy Galloni remember the Virginia Tech community. VT's flag was hung at the entrance to the RBC Library Annex.

Dr. Virginia Cherry

Dr. Virginia Cherry, Library Director, reads a quote from David Mahoney.

"Trust your hopes, not your fears."

Come together and send a message to Virginia Tech. A condolence book donated by J.T. Morris and Son Funeral Home is available in the Center for Student Affairs.

Commemorative sign and ribbon

Librarians are wearing VT charms with their nametags to remember and support the Virginia Tech community.
