Find Us. Find It. Find Out. @ your library ®

April 2009
Celebrating National Library Week @ your library®
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.

The RBC Library has adopted the American Library Association's
Worlds Connect @ your library® theme
in its celebration of National Library Week 2009 from April 12 to April 18.

"Book Bag" Sale (Monday, April 13 to Sunday, April 19)
For five dollars, patrons are treated to a complimentary recyclable bag from Ukrop’s (courtesy of the Virginia-based chain of grocery stores) and as many sale items as they can stuff into their Ukrop’s bag!

Many thanks to Ukrop's for generously donating reusable bags for the "Book Bag" sale!
Sale items, which include used books, audiobooks and movies, are located on both floors of the Library. Funds collected by the Friends will be used to enhance the collection and to support Library services and activities.
Pick a pack of paperbacks,
Amass a mess of mysteries,
Snag a set of stories,
Bag a bunch of bios,
Horde a heap of history,
Fleece a find of fiction,
Take a tote of textbooks,
Buy a bag of bargain books!

Dr. Cherry and Joy Galloni shop for used books with reusable bags donated by Ukrop's.
Complimentary Note Cards by Joy Galloni
Each person who purchases a Ukrop's bag will also be treated to a hand-folded note card with an RBC envelope. Each note card is made with specialty paper. A variety of patterns are available.

Hand folding note cards isn't Joy's only talent. During National Library Week 2008, she displayed her book art.
The Library’s inventory of used materials includes a very recent and large donation of books and audiovisual materials from The Ladies of Christ & Grace Episcopal Church in Petersburg.
Annually, the Women of Christ & Grace Episcopal Church sponsor the Ann Rusmisell Memorial Book Sale each Spring. Books not sold are donated to the Richard Bland College Library and the Friends of the RBC Library.
