SPECIAL CONNECTION TO RICHARD BLAND COLLEGE
Until construction of the Lee Park Nature Center is complete, the Richard Bland College Library is storing the Petersburg Garden Club's herbarium collection along with botanical watercolors by Virginia artist Bessie Niemeyer Marshall.

The book With Paintbrush and Shovel: Preserving Virginia's Wildflowers includes reprints of Marshall's botanical watercolors.
Bessie Niemeyer Marshall's artwork depicts a WPA project that put women to work in Petersburg, Virginia, creating a wildflower sanctuary during the 1930s.
