On June 24, 2010, Dr. Virginia Cherry was inducted into the Rotary Club of Petersburg's Board of Directors for a two-year term. She was also appointed to their Foundation Committee.

Francis Gary Powers, Jr. lectures internationally on the U-2 Incident, the need to preserve Cold War history, and how the Cold War impacts us today. His father Francis Gary Powers (August 17, 1929 – August 1, 1977) was an American pilot whose CIA U-2 spy plane was shot down while flying a reconnaissance mission over Soviet Union airspace, causing the 1960 U-2 incident.
