September 11, 2009 marked the eighth anniversary of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks.

Richard Bland College waved its flags at half mast in remembrance of that fateful day.

Upon returning from a tour of duty in Iraq, Anthony Galloni, son of librarian Joy Galloni, gave the Library a U.S. flag that his squadron flew over Iraq on September 11, 2007. This was the flag flown at half mast in front of The Commons on September 11, 2009.

Anthony graduated from Richard Bland College and Radford University.  He has been stateside for a year now and has orders to return to Iraq in February 2010. Anthony currently lives in Fort Lewis, Washington, with his wife Heather and infant daughter Madden.

In December 2007, the RBC Library supported the troops in a program known as Anthony's Army Buddies.
