In 2006, The Friends of the RBC Library "Adopt a Highway" — Johnson Road between the intersections of Flank Road and Ravenscroft Drive.

VDOT recognizes the Friends for their clean-up efforts with an official certificate.

The Friends will recruit volunteers to clean the road throughout the year. Application and initial arrangements with VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation) were completed by Dr. Virginia Cherry, former Library Director.
