As a former campus security officer, Roland M. Parsons kept the staff and students of Richard Bland College safe for over 10 years. Prior to coming to the College, he served in the United States Navy for twenty-two years as an Aviation Electronics Technician. During his service, he was able to travel the world.
Now Roland spends his time traveling to duathlons. Having once ran the Boston Marathon, Roland currently bikes and runs in competitions throughout the East Coast.
Roland has been very generous when it comes to the Library. He has donated a SONY Blu-ray player, a Toshiba HD-DVD player and a Sony Bravia High-Definition television to the RBC Library. This technology is in the Multimedia Viewing Room and allows students to view films in high quality. And thanks to Roland, library patrons can now watch DVDs in style and comfort by using the very nice chair he donated.
He has also enhanced the library's film collection by donating many DVDs including but not limited to Ratatouille, The Sopranos television series, The Twilight Zone, The X-Files television series, and the first four seasons of the critically acclaimed television series The Office. He has also donated funds to the library’s Graduate Books program so that books could be purchased in honor of graduating students like Courtney Davis, Catherin Fortmuller, Joshua Hughes, Brian Jones, Kaysee Kohler, Travis Long, Jessica Rackley, Rebecca Russell, Kevin Specter, and Kristin White.
