The collection includes books, realia, memorabilia, rare books, maps, and electronic resources. Currently there are about 1,400 books in the Virginia Room. We welcome donations for this collection. Donors will be recognized with a bookplate affixed to donated items and a listing in the online catalog. The RBC Library has been the recipient of many items from Dr. James Ryan, a local historian and Richard Bland College supporter. Dr. Ryan has also created a website on the origin of Memorial Day. Here he describes how Petersburg, Virginia became the inspiration for a National Memorial Day.
