Dr. James B. McNeer, President
Welcome to Richard Bland College of The College of William and Mary in Virginia. Founded in 1960, the 2009-2010 academic year marks our 49th year of operation.
Dr. James B. McNeer, President

We are the Commonwealth's only public junior college and our sole mission is to prepare students for transfer to both public and private colleges and universities throughout the country. As a state-supported institution of higher education, we are governed by the Board of Visitors of The College of William and Mary.

The College's enrollment of over 1,600 full and part-time students is indicative of the confidence expressed by the traditional student, the adult learner, and the general public in the quality of instruction offered by our outstanding faculty.

Richard Bland College offers many challenging courses and programs that will provide you with a foundation in the liberal arts, science, and business as you begin or continue your pursuit of higher education. By attending Richard Bland College and completing the Associate Degree, you will have completed the first two years toward the Bachelor's Degree. We have transfer agreements with colleges and universities across the Commonwealth which will enhance your educational opportunities. Our students do well when they transfer and I encourage you to explore all these career and educational options with us.

Conveniently located on a 712 acre campus between Interstates 85 and 95 just south of Petersburg, Virginia, the College faculty and staff asks that you consider the advantages of attending our institution. Please contact us for a personal tour and consultation (804.862.6249).

It is, indeed, an exciting and challenging time to be part of the Richard Bland College experience! A short walk west of Statesman Hall one finds the Residential Village which opened in 2008. Two hundred fifty students from across the Commonwealth and beyond reside in this $27,000,000 complex.

The recent renovation of the Student Commons has resulted in the doubling in size of the Library, and expanded Bookstore and convenience store, and the opening of the fully staffed medical center.

In the Fall 2010 the new three story, 52,000 sq. ft. Science and Technology Center will open with state-of-the-art laboratories for biology, chemistry, physics and computer science.

We at Richard Bland continue to move forward with a confident spirit and the desire to foster the best possible educational environment. I see that spirit demonstrated in the eyes of our students as they respond positively to the instruction of our outstanding faculty. I see it in the contributions of our alumni and friends who support our many educational endeavors.

When you consider the quality and transferability of our educational programs, our excellent and dedicated faculty, the personal attention you will receive, and our low cost, we believe you will find Richard Bland to be one of the best educational opportunities available for the first two years of college. We are the only two-year residential college in the Commonwealth.

We welcome your inquiries and look forward to hearing from you.
