Welcome to the Office of Residence Life at Richard Bland College! We are excited about the development of the brand-new residence halls here at RBC and we hope that you will consider us as an option for you as you prepare for college. As we grow and prepare for the first-ever opening of the halls on August 16, 2008, this page will continue to grow and more information will be added. Please visit us often as we will be adding more and more information each week!
We will continue to take applications and housing deposits as long as space remains in the residence halls – please do not let the previously published May 1 deadline hinder you from considering the residence halls at RBC! When paying the deposit, you may send a check along with your Housing Application, or you may also feel free to call our Business Office at (804) 862-6213 and pay over the phone using a MasterCard or Visa.
Construction on the halls continues at a successful pace. These are wonderful facilities that will truly enhance students’ college experience. The majority of our apartments will house four students, each with their own private bedroom. There will also be a very limited amount of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments. It is important to remember that, even if you request a single apartment or a space in a two- or three-person apartment, we cannot guarantee that your request will be granted. These options are very limited and our assignments are done giving priority based on the date that the completed application (paper form plus the $500.00 deposit) are received. When filling out the housing application, we encourage students to list their preferences and lifestyle choices honestly. We will do the absolute best job we can to match you up with other students whose preferences are similar to yours.
Each apartment has fully furnished kitchens, including full refrigerators, stove/ranges, microwave ovens, dishwashers, sinks with garbage disposal, and cabinetry. There is one full bathroom for every two students, so all three-bedroom and four-bedroom apartments have two full bathrooms plus additional sinks and mirrors so students will be able to brush their teeth and get ready even if the bathroom is not available. Each apartment has its own climate control and is fully wired and wireless-capable for internet access. Basic cable is included, as is one phone for local phone calls. Each apartment will be furnished with barstools for the kitchen island, a couch, two chairs, an end table and floor lamp for the living room, and each bedroom will be furnished with a twin bed with an extra-long (80”) mattress, end table, table lamp, a desk, desk chair, chest of drawers, and closet.
There will be ample space in each hall for social/recreational activities, and floors 2-4 in each building have a large study room as well, perfect for group work or individualized study.
We recently hired our staff of student Resident Advisors (RA’s) for the residence halls and are very excited about the role the RA’s will play in students’ experiences at RBC. There will be one RA per floor and they are wonderful resources for everything from succeeding academically to getting to know people on the floor to resolving conflicts to getting involved on campus. The eight RA’s for 2008-09 are:
David Belton
Laura Darden
Catherin Fortmuller
Amanda Hobbs
Amber McCamish
Whitney Petticolas
Will Snow
Crystal Tompkins
More information will be forthcoming on the RA staff!
