Why was 1955-1956 the "Perfect Storm" for Elvis? What artist/group has sold more songs than any other act in Rock History? Who played the music on songs by the Four Tops or the Supremes? Where were the Funk Brothers, the Wrecking Crew, and the Swampers? What two acts in rock history have had the biggest influence on all other rockers and their music?
The answer to these questions will be obvious after attending a 3-hour lecture at Richard Bland College coming up on March 5, 2012, McNeer Hall room 104 at 7:00 pm given by Richmond's top radio air personality TONY BOOTH-Ms. Lizzy's Baby Boy-who hosts the afternoon show on Big Oldies 107.3. Joining Tony will be veteran entertainer RON MOODY who has fronted his band the CENTAURS for almost 50 years. Ron had a Number One song in 1969 on all three Richmond rock and roll stations with "If I Didn't Have a Dime." Additionally, there is another surprise, STEVE BASSETT from Richmond who is also a singer/songwriter/producer having written and sung on some of the top commercials and, along with Robbin Thompson, gave us the hit "Sweet Virginia Breeze."
BOOTH and his guests will trace rock music through the early R&B years, Elvis, Doo-Wop, The Brill Building, Songwriters Stoller and Leiber, The All-Girl Groups, Motown, The Teen Idols, The British Invasion and, of course, The Beatles, Heavy Metal Music, The Singer-Songwriters of the early 70s, Disco Examples of these songs and artists will be played.
