TARTUFFE by Moliere

Play opens on February 28 at 8:00 p.m. Run includes February 29, March 1, 6, 7, 8
at 8:00 p.m. and March 2 and 9 at 2:30 p.m.

This production of the French comic classic will be presented as a part of Black History Month activities on the RBC campus. The setting for the play has been moved from France of the 1660’s to the modern south and will be set in a Baptist church. The story of religious hypocrisy unfolds along with the humorous situations.

Also, next season (2008-2009) marks The Richard Bland College Players 20th Anniversary Season. Several events associated with the anniversary are in the works including an anniversary production of CAKE AND SIPPIN’ WHISKEY by Vicki Mooney (the first production ever produced by The Richard Bland College Players) to be directed by Darlene Jill Mitten, who portrayed the leading female character in that original production. Cast members from that first production will be invited to a special opening night performance which will take place 20 years exactly from the time it was first performed. We also plan a Halloween production of Edgar Allen Poe material, a production of Sophocles’ Greek tragedy ANTIGONE and a performance of Edward Albee’s A DELICATE BALANCE. That play will close the season in April of 2009 and be the last performance under the guidance of David E. Majewski as the Director of Theatre. He will be directing this production and playing one of the characters. More news on the new season will be forthcoming.
