Richard Bland Earns Accreditation For the Next Decade

Richard Bland College of William & Mary has been approved for reaffirmation of accreditation through 2029 from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), a regional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Richard Bland’s reaffirmation follows a vigorous process of on-site and off-site reviews to ensure the College is continuing to provide the resources, programs and services to accomplish its mission of excellence in teaching, learning and commitment to 100% student success.

The SACSCOC reaffirmation process is conducted every 10 years. Campus visits were completed in October 2018  by members of the SACSCOC On-Site Reaffirmation Committee, which differs and is separate from members of the association’s Off-Site Reaffirmation Committee. Richard Bland was first accredited in 1961 and last reaffirmed in 2009.

Accreditation by SACSCOC is a statement of the institution’s continuing commitment to integrity and its capacity to provide effective programs and services based on agreed-upon accreditation standards.

“Reaffirmation was the result of years of tireless and painstaking work by faculty and staff,” says President Debbie L. Sydow. “It is a testament to the commitment of the College to provide a high quality education for our students while operating in an ethical and responsible manner.”

Reaffirmation signifies that RBC meets or exceeds national standards and enables the College to receive federal funds, including scholarships, loans and research grants. Additionally, accreditation determines that RBC has the resources, programs and services to accomplish its mission and has clearly specified educational programs to accomplish its goals and objectives. It is an important element of recognition for students working toward degrees at the College.
