Doyle Brown and Andy Ramirez—star guards on the men’s basketball team at Richard Bland College (RBC)—were recognized among the nation’s top JUCO (Junior College) players, according to JUCORecruiting, a premier platform for JUCO basketball news and recruitment. Brown was No. 67 on the list, while Ramirez earned an honorable mention.
“Doyle and Andy have been the backbone of our program on and off the floor,” said Guillermo Cabrera, the RBC men’s basketball coach. “The national attention they’re receiving is a testament of their hard work on and off the floor.
“These two young men deserve all the success that is coming their way and will be sorely missed next season. To say I am a proud coach is an understatement.”
This season, Ramirez is the team’s leading scorer at 18 points per game, along with seven rebounds. Brown, the second-leading scorer, is averaging 17 points and three rebounds. A few months ago, Brown signed an NCAA Division I offer to Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He’s the first RBC men’s basketball player since 2021 to sign with a Division I institution.
Both players are deeply honored to be among the nation’s top players.
“I’m very grateful to be on the list,” Brown said. “To be put up there with the best is a great feeling and motivating for me.
“In the end, my main goal is cutting our nets in March. Every day is a step closer to making that vision come true.”
“I take pride in impacting the game in every way scoring, rebounding, defending—anything my team needs me to do,” Ramirez said. “I know the work I put in and I trust where it’s leading.
“Mentions like this don’t change the mission, they just remind me to keep improving, stay locked in and do whatever it takes to win.”
