Statesman Account Management (SAM)

Statesman Account Management (SAM) is a self-service password reset and account unlock tool for RBC.

Login

Use the Login button for the following features:

  • Register with SAM
  • Change your password
  • Find out your password expiration date
  • Change or clear your challenge question answers
  • Register an alternate email address for one-time use passcode (OTP)

Unlock/Reset Password

Use the Unlock/Reset Password button for the following features:

  • Unlock your account
  • Reset your password
  • Information on SAM

      • SAM Desktop is installed on computers in the Library, McNeer 111, and McNeer 113. This tool enables you to reset your RBC password and unlock your account.
      • SAM Web enables you to reset your RBC password and unlock your account from a web browser.
      • SAM Web works both on- and off-campus, and is available 24×7
      • SAM has a single sign-on feature that we started using with Canvas in November 2015
        • Use your RBC username or email address and password to get signed in to Canvas.
  • Information on Passwords

      • Faculty/Staff Passwords will expire every 90 days
      • Student Passwords will expire every 90 days
      • When you change your password with SAM, there will be new minimum complexity requirements in force:
        • (10) characters minimum
        • (1) uppercase letter
        • (1) lowercase letter
        • (1) number
        • (1) symbol
  • Getting registered with SAM

    • Please note the following to get registered with SAM:

      • You will need your RBC ID number.
      • You will be required to answer 5 of 10 security questions.
      • You will be required to enter an alternate email address (other than your RBC email address) for one-time use passcodes (OTP) to unlock/reset passwords.
      • You cannot enter the same answers for the questions.
      • Your answers must be a minimum of four characters.

      SAM Desktop

      If you are on-campus, you can register with SAM Desktop in the Library, McNeer 111, and McNeer 113.

      • Log into the computer with your RBC username or email address and password.
      • Type in your password and click Continue.
      • Answer the mandatory question: What is your Richard Bland College ID number?
        • **Be sure to put capital “R” before the numbers**
        • The system will indicate there are “1 mandatory, 5 optional” answers remaining. This RBC ID number question is considered the mandatory one. (The term ‘optional’ is a little misleading. You are required to answer 5 of 10 security questions. You have the option of selecting which 5 of the 10 to use.)
      • Click on the arrows to continue.
      • You must answer at least (5) of the (10) challenge questions listed to continue. The first page shows the first five questions. Click on the arrows to see the next five questions.
        • As you provide responses to each question, the answers remaining will count down from 5.
      • Once you have finished answering at least five questions (you can answer more), click Continue.
      • You are now registered with SAM. Click on the link “Click here to try to continue logging in”.

      SAM Web

      If you are on- or off-campus, you can register with SAM Web using your web browser.

      • Go to: https://hub.rbc.edu
      • Enter your RBC username or email address, your password, and click Login.
      • Type in your password and click Continue.
      • Answer the mandatory question: What is your Richard Bland College ID number?
        • The system will indicate there are “1 mandatory, 5 optional” answers remaining. This RBC ID number question is considered the mandatory one. (The term ‘optional’ is a little misleading. You are required to answer 5 of 10 security questions. You have the option of selecting which 5 of the 10 to use.)

      • Log into your alternate email to get the OTP from the email.
      • Enter the code in the box and your alternate email is now registered.
      • You are now registered with SAM. Click on the link “Click here to try to continue logging in”.
  • How to Change Your Password, Unlock Your Account, and Change Your Answers

    • Scenario 1 – Using SAM Desktop:

      • Click on ‘Unlock/Reset Password’
      • Type in your RBC username or email address, click Continue.
      • Select the appropriate option to either ‘Unlock Account’ or ‘Reset Forgotten Password’. Click Continue.
      • You will have to enter your RBC ID number and answer 3 of the 5 questions you answered when registering.
      • Click Continue. You should see a message “Your action was successful.”
      • Click on the link “Click here to try to continue logging in.”
        • If this is an account unlock it will take you back to the login.
        • If this is a password reset then it will enable you to reset your password.

      Scenario 2 – If you are NOT already logged into SAM Web:

      • Go back to the login page: https://hub.rbc.edu
      • Type in your RBC username or email address. Click on ‘Unlock/Reset Password’
      • Select the appropriate option to either ‘Unlock Account’ or ‘Reset Forgotten Password’. Click Continue.
      • You will have the option to enter your RBC ID number and answer 3 of the 5 questions you answered when registering OR You can choose to have a one-time use passcode (OTP) sent to your alternate email address.  You will need to log into your alternate email to get the code and then enter it in the box.
      • Click Continue. You should see a message “Your action was successful.”
      • Click on the link “Click here to try to continue logging in.”
        • If this is an account unlock it will take you back to the login.
        • If this is a password reset then it will enable you to reset your password.

      Scenario 3 – If you are already logged into SAM Web:

      • Change your password by clicking “Change now”.
      • Change your security question answers by clicking on “Change my answers”.
        • Note: If you choose “Clear my answers” then it will take you through the enrollment process again.
