Christopher Kukk, Ph.D. Announced as RBC Provost

Christopher Kukk, Ph.D., who has an impressive resume in higher education and socioeconomic research spanning nearly three decades, began serving in his role as provost of Richard Bland College (RBC) on August 10. Dr. Kukk seeks to implement innovative academic opportunities for faculty and students, prioritizing interdisciplinary learning and streamline curriculum development at the College.

“Richard Bland College has built remarkable momentum and I’m excited to contribute to its next chapter,” Dr. Kukk said. “By leveraging my experience in academic leadership, honors education and interdisciplinary innovation, I hope to help expand opportunities for students, strengthen our academic enterprise and further elevate RBC’s reputation as an institution of excellence.”

Dr. Kenneth Alexander, President of Richard Bland College, underscored Dr. Kukk will be integral to strengthening the College’s commitment to academic excellence, student success and institutional innovation.

“As the College’s chief academic leader and a member of the President’s Cabinet, Dr. Kukk will provide visionary leadership for academic affairs, overseeing the quality, integrity and continuous advancement of the College’s academic enterprise,” Dr. Alexander said.

Dr. Kukk, who most recently served as dean of the Cormier Honors College at Longwood University, has published a multitude of publications about the dynamics and practical connections between neuroscience and the social sciences. His work illuminates that weaving social values into our learning, civic and business communities affect levels of socioeconomic capital. Dr. Kukk is a HarperCollins author and he has provided research analysis for world-renowned publications such as the Associated Press, National Public Radio (NPR) and The Economist.

“Every chapter of my career has reinforced the importance of pairing bold ideas with meaningful outcomes,” Dr. Kukk said. “I look forward to leveraging my experience in academic leadership, research and innovation to help RBC continue its tradition of excellence.”

Dr. Kukk’s other notable career highlights include: international security fellow for Harvard University, National Science Foundation award winner, professor of political science at Longwood University, former professor of political and social science at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU), former founding director of WCSU’s Center for Compassion, Creativity & Innovation (which was supported by the Dalai Lama), former director of the college’s Kathwari Honors Program and former director of the Jane Goodall Center for Excellence in Environmental Education. Dr. Kukk was also an Army counter-intelligence agent and a research associate for Cambridge Energy Research Associates. He received his Ph.D. in political science from Boston College and his B.A. from Boston University. He is also a Fulbright Scholar and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.
