Dr. Timothy Rohrbach (he/him) joined the faculty at Richard Bland College in 2017 and was promoted to Associate Professor of Biology in 2023. He is committed to integrating evidence‑based teaching practices into the biology curriculum to help students become active, engaged learners. Drawing on years of experience working in scientific research laboratories, Dr. Rohrbach applies the principles of the scientific method to continuously test, refine, and strengthen his teaching approaches.
Throughout his time at Richard Bland College, Dr. Rohrbach has had the privilege of teaching a diverse range of students—including high school dual‑enrollment learners, traditional and non‑traditional students, international students, and many first‑generation college students. He has taught in multiple modalities, from in‑person and hybrid formats to more than seven years of online instruction. His primary teaching areas include General Biology, Microbiology, and Cell Biology.
Dr. Rohrbach has enhanced his teaching through participation in several nationally recognized faculty‑development programs, including the National Institute on Scientific Teaching, the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Science Teaching Fellows Program, and the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), where he attained Associate status. He also completed Duke University’s Continuing Studies Certificate in Online Learning. To support an inclusive and equitable learning environment, he has earned the University of South Florida’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate and completed the Building Inclusive Communities Workshop.
Dr. Rohrbach received his B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology along with a Minor in Microbiology from Penn State University and earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology (Immunology Theme) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He subsequently completed a two‑year postdoctoral fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University. Over the course of a decade, he gained extensive molecular biology research experience using both in vitro and in vivo experimental models.
