The Richard Bland College Foundation has received a COVID-19 Emergency Grant from the Petersburg-based Cameron Foundation to purchase mobile hotspots that will enable students to continue remote learning during, and beyond, the coronavirus pandemic.

Richard Bland College celebrated the Class of 2020 with a virtual commencement ceremony that awarded associate degrees to 252 graduates. In addition to remarks from W&M Rector John Littel and RBC President Debbie Sydow, RBC and W&M alumnus Victor Branch delivered the keynote address at the 57th annual commencement.

The William & Mary Board of Visitors has unanimously voted not to increase tuition rates for in-state students enrolling at Richard Bland College. This is the second straight year that the board has voted not to raise tuition, making RBC’s tuition one of the lowest in Virginia for the 2020-21 academic year.

Commencement 2020 at Richard Bland College will be streamed virtually for graduates on May 13 at 6 pm. Victor K. Branch ’82, Richmond Market President for Bank of America and recipient of the College’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017, will deliver the keynote address. Alden Di Dio, Vice President of the Student Assembly, will speak on behalf of the Class of 2020.

The Board of Visitors of the College of William & Mary will host a public hearing on the college’s budget and finances, including proposed tuition for continuing and incoming in-state, out-of-state undergraduate students for the 2020-2021 academic year. The time, date and location of the public hearing that will take place is yet to be determine as the College addresses its ongoing COVID-19 response.

Richard Bland College is providing students and community members free WiFi access in the parking lot outside Maze Hall on Johnson Road. The College has expanded access to help provide Internet service for those without connectivity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor Ralph Northam recently toured Richard Bland College’s current library and future home of the Academic Innovation Center. The $15.7 million Center, which was included in the Governor’s and General Assembly House budgets, will enable the addition of new high-tech and online offerings at Richard Bland.

Richard Bland College is pleased to recognize more than 200 students who have earned distinction on the President’s and Dean’s List for the 2019 fall semester. Eighty-five students earned a 3.8 grade point average (GPA) and above for placement on the President’s List. An additional 121 students rated Dean’s List status with a 3.25 to 3.79 GPA. All students are required to carry a minimum of 12 credit hours to earn academic distinction.

Morris (Class of 2008), Jennifer McGrew (Class of 2000), and the Talley family are recipients of the 2019 Awards of Distinction. Morris was presented with the Young Alumni Award, McGrew with the Distinguished Alumni Award, and the Talley family with the Richard Bland Award.
