Richard Bland College (RBC) is among the institutions whose workforce certificate and degree programs were recently approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The College’s Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) program is now certified through the Commission.
“Richard Bland College aligns its educational offerings with the evolving needs of today’s workforce,” RBC President Debbie L. Sydow said. “The certification of Richard Bland’s Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) program by SACSCOC affirms the College’s success at delivering high-quality, career-ready pathways that equip students to confidently enter and succeed in today’s workforce.”
The approvals come as national attention grows around workforce-focused credentials and the anticipated implementation of workforce Pell initiatives. While federal guidance has not yet established specific requirements for accreditors, SACSCOC supports institutions in developing high-quality programs that lead to meaningful career opportunities.
“As our member institutions respond to workforce needs in their states and local communities, we are seeing strong interest in certificates and credentials that lead directly to employment,” said Dr. Stephen L. Pruitt, president of SACSCOC. “These programs reflect the responsiveness of our institutions to state workforce needs and the growing demand for credentials that provide immediate value.”
Recent approvals through SACSCOC’s Substantive Change process reflect this growing emphasis on career-aligned credentials and stackable pathways that allow students to build skills and advance in the workforce.
The SACSCOC also approved workforce and degree programs at Navarro College, Northeast Texas Community College and South Texas College.
These programs demonstrate how institutions across the SACSCOC membership are expanding career-focused offerings in areas such as advanced manufacturing, industrial technology, emerging aviation technologies and artificial intelligence.
“SACSCOC institutions are developing innovative, stackable programs that meet students where they are while addressing real workforce demands,” Pruitt said. “These programs help ensure that students gain skills that translate directly into career opportunities.”
