Ava DuVernay’s award-winning documentary “13th” explores the passing of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, outlawing slavery “except as punishment for crime,” and the troubled history of this exception in the age of mass incarceration. The event is presented as part of the RBC History Department, Library, and Campus Engagement’s annual “Constitution Week Celebration,” focusing on the past history and current relevance of the governing document of the United States.
