Public Hearing on Budget

The Board of Visitors of the College of William & Mary will host a public hearing on the college’s budget and finances, including proposed tuition for continuing and incoming in-state, out-of-state undergraduate students for the 2020-2021 academic year. The time, date and location of the public  hearing that will take place is yet to be determine as the College addresses its ongoing COVID-19 response.

Section 23.1-307 (D) of the Code of Virginia requires that 30 days prior to approval of each year’s tuition and mandatory fees, the boards of visitors of Virginia’s higher education institutions announce the range of increase under consideration, the proposed use of any incremental revenue and allow for public comment.  William & Mary’s Board of Visitors approved the RBC Guidelines on receiving public comment at its February 2020 meeting.  Richard Bland College is governed by the William & Mary Board of Visitors.

The public hearing will include a presentation by the administration, and also time for comments from the general public. In addition to participating in the public hearing, members of the public can also comment on the proposed tuition range via an online form.

Public comments will be shared with the Board of Visitors in advance of its May 2020 meeting to set the tuition rates for continuing and incoming in-state and out-of-state undergraduate and transfer students admitted to the college for the 2020-21 academic year, consistent with past practice.

The Board of Visitors will consider tuition increases ranging from 0% to 10%.

Pursuant to Virginia Code § 2.2-3708.2(A)(3), the May meeting of the Board of Visitors will be held through electronic communication, most specifically through Zoom. The specific details on how the public may access this meeting will be available a week prior to the hearing. Information on the Board meeting will be released in accordance with the College’s normal schedule of announcing public meetings.
