Richard Bland College and SRMC Partner for Health Services

RICHARD BLAND COLLEGE AND SOUTHSIDE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER PARTNER FOR STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES AND ALLIED HEALTH TRAINING

Petersburg, VA – Richard Bland College and Southside Regional Medical Center (SRMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that designates the hospital as its preferred health care provider and the College as SRMC’s Professional School’s preferred provider of Allied Health training.

The stated purpose of the agreement is to continue to develop and expand a framework of cooperation between SRMC and RBC to mutually benefit both organizations and the communities they serve. This cooperation is intended to foster increased communication of the services each organization offers, increase access to the services, and increase the community presence of both institutions.

Specifically, through this cooperative agreement, Richard Bland students will have dedicated walk-in service available within SRMC’s primary care clinics. Students will also be provided with specific times for high-demand same service group treatments, such as physicals, immunizations and annual check-ups. Prerequisite training for SRMC’s prospective Professional School students will be provided by Richard Bland College.

“The College’s new 2019 strategic plan seeks to establish strategic partnerships that bring to students needed expertise and services in exchange for the sharing of what we have to offer as a highly reputable institution of higher education,” said Richard Bland President Debbie L. Sydow, Ph.D. “This partnership with SRMC is a classic win-win because our students will now have special access to comprehensive and high quality health services at SRMC, and Richard Bland will deliver outstanding science, math and general education programming to students seeking entry to SRMC’s Professional Schools.

“SRMC is excited to have the opportunity to provide quality care to the students of Richard Bland College, and as students are preparing to make positive choices in life, we also want to educate them on how their personal health and wellness will affect their ability to thrive in and out of college,” said Southside Regional Medical Center CEO Michael Yungmann.

The Memorandum of Understanding, which also includes collaboration to develop a signature event to connect both institutions more closely with the community, begins on June 15, 2013, and extends for one year with automatic renewal thereafter.
