Richard Bland College of William & Mary Partners With Loudoun County on “College Now Project”

A $29,000 grant made possible by The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will allow 30 students with limited incomes from across Loudoun County, Virginia to participate in the “College Now Project,” a dual enrollment collaborative program with Richard Bland College of William & Mary. The students will study and live on campus at Richard Bland College for a week this summer.

The “College Now Project” enables students taking advanced classes in high school to earn college credits at Richard Bland College in science or in the visual and performing arts. It’s the first free and open-access dual enrollment program in Virginia.

“Richard Bland College is proud to be partnering with Loudoun County Schools on Dual Enrollment programming, and we are pleased that this grant will allow us to collaborate even further on our summer program,” says Dr. J. Tyler Hart, Dean of Enrollment Services. “Richard Bland College professors, in partnership with the Rock Ridge School faculty in Loudoun, are designing a challenging arts and science curriculum for the ‘College Now Project’ students.”

“Students from low-and moderate-income families will benefit from our grants, often getting outstanding educational opportunities beyond the financial reach of their parents,” said Cooke Foundation Executive Director Harold O. Levy. “The grants will help develop the talents of students in our region, preparing them for success in school and careers.”

Through the on-going strategic partnership with Richard Bland College, Rock Ridge High School in Loudoun County is one of Virginia’s first Early College High Schools. The program at Rock Ridge has grown 3000% in its 3-year history. The graduating class of 2017 at Rock Ridge High School will have amassed 3,360 college credits through Richard Bland College of William & Mary.
